Paolo Bettini
Associate Professor
Paolo Bettini is Associate Professor of “Aerospace Technologies and Materials” in the master courses of Aeronautical and Space Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Nanomaterials and Materials Engineering.
His main research activities are focused on the development of New Materials and Technologies for aerospace structures. In this context, the study of smart materials (FO, PZT, SMA) and their integration into composite structures has led to deep three distinct but strictly interconnected themes: design and implementation of structural monitoring systems (HUMS), development of adaptive structures (morphing), study of biomimetic multifunctional systems (based on sensors and actuators embedded in self-healing composites). Other recent areas of interest concern research on Additive Manufacturing, Life Sciences Technologies, Recycling and Sustainability of composites.
Research activities have led Paolo Bettini to participate in several research programs in cooperation with Universities, Research centers and with important industrial partners.
Paolo Bettini is co-author of about 120 scientific articles published on international journals, book chapters, conference proceedings. He is co-inventor of 7 patents.
Since 2018 Paolo Bettini is the contact person for the Italian Space Agency of the research and development of innovative technologies and advanced materials for Space as part of a fifteen-year Framework Agreement between ASI and Politecnico di Milano.
Finally, Paolo Bettini is founder and coordinator of the EIFOM team, winner in 2019 of the Innovation Challenge "Switch2Product" organized by Politecnico di Milano, Deloitte and Polihub. EIFOM team is currently operating to establish a start-up aimed at the production of sensitive elements for structural and functional monitoring in multiple industrial sectors (aerospace, automotive, oil&gas and biomedical).
