The Ph.D. course "Ethical Aspects of Research in Dual-Use Technologies" ended last week after three very intensive days, from Feb 7 to Feb 9, 2024.
The course is part of the syllabus offered by the Ph.D. School of Politecnico di Milano.
Under the supervision of professor Pierangelo Masarati ↗, it gives the students an opportunity to understand possible military an security implications of their research, training them to recognize and address potential ethical dilemmas in a controlled environment, through the analysis of technical and legislative aspects of dual-use technologies.
This edition, the fifth, saw a seminar, by professor Pierluigi Di Lizia ↗, on "Dual-use Technologies and Services in Space Engineering," and one, by Nolen Gertz, professor of Applied Philosophy at the University of Twente, on ethical aspects of Dual-Use technology, with the participation of more than 50 students from 9 Ph.D. Programs out of the 20 offered by the PhD School; a clear sign of the growing sensibility at Politecnico di Milano concerning issues of this kind.
