DAER PhD candidates Yasir M. Khan ↗ and Gabriele Sirtori ↗ presented four contributions on cutting-edge aeronautical studies on sustainable aviation at the 13th EASN 2023 conference.
These studies are framed in FMSlab's ↗ manifold activities focused on electric and hydrogen propulsion technologies:
“Development and Flight Testing of a Distributed Electric Propulsion Demonstrator”, centered on DAER’s remotely-controlled SwitchMaster flying model that demonstrates the capability of the patented “AeroSwitch” concept ↗.
“Prediction of Environmental Benefits Introducing Hybrid-Electric Propulsion on Regional Aircraft”, where a prediction of the fuel consumption of future short-haul fleets is provided.
“Sizing of Airport Infrastructures in Support to Hydrogen-Powered Fleets”, offering the first attempt at estimating the future airport equipment needed for producing, storing and delivering hydrogen to airliners based on realistic traffic scenarios.
“Business Jet Conceptual Design: A Cost-Driven Approach”, where an original design method is discussed, leading to promising results in cost effectiveness without performance trade-offs.
Look out for further developments and upcoming journal papers on these fascinating topics!
